This is a book about time management and provides twenty one ways to overcome one of its main enemies “Procrastination”.The title of the book refers to the idea that eating a frog as an action would be very unpleasant.

If the first action (Your personal frog eating) that you complete each day is your worst possible task, any further tasks you undertake will seem easy.

The frog is an analogy for each individual’s event (that they are procrastinating about) and each individual must identify their own specific frog before they can eat it.

Goal setting is an important practice for time management and we are told that we need clarity and definition in what we are trying to achieve to help us proceed.

We are advised that just like any skill that we wish to develop, time management must be practised regularly.

As time management is about efficiency (more done in less time) it is of no surprise that there is a section on the 80 / 20 rule.

Starting the day with high value tasks until this becomes a habit is also a useful tip.

The strategies provided are very much in the vein of a Nike “Just do it” attitude.

This book is about following our passions, breaking the old rules and leading groups of like minded people (our tribes).

It expands on the differences between leaders and managers and the fact that in today’s modern world we are all potential leaders.

The old feudal leadership model was propagated around a leader (or King) surrounded by “YES” men. Today we are surrounded by people who like to make up their own minds.

To become leaders of the new tribes we need to be heretics. Modern day heretics are people who are willing to change the status quo and have realised that safe can no longer be classed as secure.

The thing that stops most people form becoming leaders is fear, people just don’t like change. They will work in a business and even though it may be going bankrupt they refuse to leave because they wish to maintain the status quo.

We are told that businesses such as the record industry are going to fail if they refuse to adopt new methods (Believing they can maintain the status quo of their old distribution models).

He coins the term sheepwalking, “the concept of hiring people who have been raised to be obedient, giving them brain dead jobs and enough fear in an effort to keep them in line”. Leaders of the new tribes have a responsibility to break out of the sheepwalking mode!

The tribe is defined as “a group of people connected to a leader and connected to an idea”.

The size of the tribe can vary but a small tribe is not necessarily a bad thing. The people we exclude from our group can add as much to its strength as the people we include as a small tribe can provide exclusivity.

“If you want to sell just one product you may get away with an overnight success but if you wish customers to return you need to provide value”. The tribe theme is very much about niches and catering for our specific segment of the market.

We are told that it is not just our right but our obligation to become leaders of a tribe.

Senator Bill Bradley’s definition of a movement is having three elements: “1. A Narrative, 2. A connection, 3. Something to Do”. The book tells us that too often organizations concentrate only on the third.

The book is primarily about the differences between old style and new style marketing. As you would expect from a book on marketing it has a memorable title! We are told of four industrial revolutions, The first being 1760-1840, the second 1840-1950, The third being the era of mass marketing for wants instead of needs and the fourth revolution being today’s new modern marketing trends. The meatball in the title is the previous mass marketing of everyday products to people. The sundae (with its various options for additions) is just like the new marketing opportunities (blogs etc).

Old style marketers think they can just bolt on the new marketing to the old products, hence the disjointed image of a meatball with a sundae on top.

He is not advocating against selling average products to average people he is just indicating that this will not provide enough growth.

Previous marketing was about suppliers capitalizing on the products they already had, this is not enough now and synchronizing the product with the marketing (and our client’s requirements) is the way ahead.

He uses the comparison of a book publisher (who is always seeking new readers for new writers) and a magazine editor (who is seeking new articles for his existing readers) to bring home one of the differences between old and new marketing.

The main body of the book is split into 14 current trends (trends that we must monitor if we wish to continue to grow as an organization).

This book is a comprehensive guide to the dos and don’ts of trading.

As you would expect from the title it advocates taking the emotions out of trading (providing advice on the psychology required to be a successful trader).

We begin with a cautionary tale of two traders (One who can control his emotions and one who can’t).

The book is then broken down into three main sections.

1. The skills you need to foster in order to become successful (including having a set of TRADING RULES).

2. The skills (habits and attitudes) you should avoid and neglect.

3. Self Development. The book recognises that self improvement is a big part of being a successful trader and hence provides this section on visualization and Psycho Cybernetics.

Although we may all trade different strategies and timeframes I believe that anyone considering trading should read this book first.

There are different guides and reference books out there for Forex, Options CFD’s etc but whichever vehicle you decide to trade there are useful nuggets of golden information in here.

Although you may expect from the title that this is a book about retirement, it is also about the differences between rich and poor and the way they focus on different financial tools. If we are to achieve this rich retirement whilst we are still young we must increase our skills in the areas of business, finance and money management.

Kiyosaki talks about the fact that it wasn’t until he and his wife set the plan to retire young and rich. If we intend to retire young and rich we need to plan.

Anyone can reach these goals if they adopt the following six habits: Hire A book keeper, Build a winning team, Constantly expand your content & context, Keep growing up, Be willing to fail more and Listen to yourself.

In order to achieve great wealth, either in real estate, paper assets or some other area, we need to build an asset base.

Although the tax breaks info is specific to the US market he does advise readers to consult a professional financial adviser and the ratios discussed are generic worldwide.

The invention of government pensions and other safety nets was to supply the very needy in the industrial age, in today’s current information age we need to be more self reliant.

The focus like some of the other Rich Dad books is leverage.
